GEORGIAN MODERN
Set against a backdrop of mature woodland in the Greenfield Hill Neighborhood of Fairfield, this 6,250 square foot new build brings a quietly modern sensibility to the classical Georgian form. The massing is a symmetrical two story main block under a slate hip roof, three arched dormers, a columned entry. An attached two car garage wing, crowned by a wood railed terrace off the primary suite, breaks the formality just enough to signal that this is a house designed for how people actually live. The entry foyer rises two full stories, anchored by a sculptural white oak stair wrapped in hand troweled plaster, its slender bronze balustrade catching the light that pours down from clerestory glazing above. Calacatta marble, rift sawn oak, walnut, unlacquered brass, and warm white plaster. Full height wall of walnut cabinetry concealing refrigeration and pantry, a black and brass professional range set into a sculpted plaster hood, and a wall of bronze framed glazing opening the room to the lawn beyond. In the adjacent living room, a double sided fireplace floats within a floor to ceiling slab of book veined marble, flanked by walnut shelved niches and a wall of steel framed doors that dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Upstairs, the primary suite occupies its own wing. French doors open from the bedroom onto the private terrace above the garage morning coffee at treetop height while the primary bath pairs a freestanding soaking tub beneath a bronze casement window with a rift oak double vanity, honed marble surfaces, and a glass wrapped shower in full height Calacatta slab. Four additional bedrooms, each with dedicated or adjoining baths, a second floor laundry, and a dramatic open to below gallery complete the upper level.
